Our People
At Manitowoc, sustainable growth means more than taking care of our planet. It also means taking care of our people, the everyday heroes who use our products, and the communities we all live in. We do this by living our core values and one of those core values is: We Work as a Team. This core value helps us provide the foundation necessary to advance our impact into the communities we work in and help collaborate and support our team members.
Putting people first starts with our team members. We continued to launch employee engagement surveys to gain employee feedback to optimize our culture, better understand our team members' viewpoints and foster a sense of belonging. We recently partnered with Heroes Make America to expand our collaboration with the US military community. We continue to gain momentum with our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), which play an important role in our diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
As a corporation with operations and suppliers worldwide, we recognize the importance of ensuring that respect for human rights and dignity is embedded at all levels of our business. We reinforce this commitment through our policies, ongoing outreach initiatives, and training.
At Manitowoc, we remain fully committed to building a culture of inclusion and expanding our diverse workforce. We continue to make strides on our journey to ensure our workplace embraces equity and inclusion.
Manitowoc is committed to increasing diversity among our workforce, including our leaders, with an emphasis on recognizing the talents of all employees and candidates for placement, promotion, and internal assignment. We continue to enhance our outreach to local networks and agencies to ensure a diverse candidate population for future employment opportunities.
In 2023, we kicked off a partnership with Heros Make America (affiliate of National Association of Manufacturers) to increase our opportunity to tap into the skilled, hardworking and dedicated, military community. It's our intention to ensure we offer greater hiring opportunities to those US service personnel making the transition into manufacturing. We will continue to showcase Manitowoc as an employer of choice to the greater military community and are grateful to those who have served in the US Armed Forces.
In 2023, the Company continued growing its women’s resource group, “Manitowoc Leans In.” The group has connected women across departments and levels globally. Several in person and virtual meetings were held globally with a variety of coffee talks, panel discussions and professional development topics.
Building off our momentum with our women’s resource group and in conjunction with our drive to help US transitioning Military personnel, we are also in the beginning stages of adding a new Veterans Employee Resource Group. We are excited to offer this resource group to employees in 2024.

At Manitowoc, we invest in our workforce by offering programs that develop, grow and draw on their individual potential throughout their careers. We regularly evaluate the impact of our training and career development programs and are working to develop training and development goals for every team member. In 2023, we continued our Talent Development process which improves engagement between managers and employees while prioritizing the development of our team members. We expect our employees and managers to meet frequently throughout the year to discuss goals, expectations, and career development. In 2023 we leveraged both virtual and in-person training that totaled almost 95,000 hours with a focus on safety, leadership, ethics, diversity, and cultural awareness. We also held succession planning meetings to ensure that critical gaps are identified to continue meeting future business needs.
As stewards of ensuring we have a strong, diverse, and equitable succession pipeline, our leadership team takes a very focused approach to ensure we are cultivating the potential leaders of tomorrow within the organization. The Manitowoc Mentorship Program is designed to partner our high performing talent with senior leadership team members.
The Supervisor Leadership Program is an interactive 12-month training program launched globally to all front-line supervisors. The program is designed to create awareness, introduce concepts, and build skills in key leadership areas that drive team performance to deliver results while fostering continuous learning and improvement. Interactive training and blended learning approaches are used to help participants learn, practice, and apply the concepts. The program consists of 12 courses led by local internal or executive facilitators focusing on principles of The Manitowoc Way, Leadership Behavior, Environmental Sustainability, and our WorkSafe Program. This year, the program had a 95% attendance and completion rate for supervisors globally.
In 2023, we launched the Customer Support Leadership Program focused on developing leadership skills, managerial techniques, and business applications proficiency, while reinforcing a common customer support vision. Courses included topics such as Empowerment & Accountability, DE&I, Financial Basics and Effective Communication. We received excellent feedback on the course materials, with an average satisfaction score of 8.75 out of 10. Over 200 participants were trained on 11 topics through 50+ virtual sessions.
The key to ensuring engagement and retention is to make certain that our new team members have a seamless and interactive onboarding experience. Throughout 2023, we undertook a deep analysis into what that includes for Manitowoc. In support of this goal, we implemented a new industry-leading onboarding tool that allows for a fully electronic and guided employee experience.
The tool, “Journeys,” eliminates the burden of completing physical paperwork, reduces our environmental impact, improves data accuracy, and makes for a more streamlined experience. The tool has been implemented for all of our U.S. locations along with multiple Asia-Pacific locations. The goal is to have all professional new hires around the globe using this tool by the end of 2024.
