Manitowoc takes its role as a leader in sustainability seriously and has accelerated several initiatives to further their results. Among the highlights are:

CONNECT – a telematic remote-monitoring software platform available on newly manufactured Potain Tower cranes (including a smartphone App for field technician), Grove All-Terrain cranes (also available to be retrofitted onto existing cranes using CCS) and an increasing number of Grove Rough-Terrain cranes. CONNECT reduces the need for multiple technician visits to repair a crane, saving fuel and CO2 emissions; while also tracking crane usage and performance to allow for proper maintenance scheduling to ensure cranes operate at maximum efficiency. Other benefits of CONNECT include the ability to identify the current location of cranes to minimize the time and expense necessary to move cranes from one jobsite to another to meet customer requirements in the most efficient way.

EnCORE™ – Manitowoc has recognized the need to support aging cranes in the marketplace through improved repair, rebuild, and remanufacturing capabilities. Rather than scrap all of the iron as cranes reach their end-of-life stage and need to be replaced, Manitowoc can provide services to extend the life of cranes through economical overhauls using remanufactured parts to complete rebuild at Original Equipment Manufacturer standards that offers a second useful life to the cranes.

Maxim EnCORE Order

Refurbishment of 2250 crawler cranes

In early 2024, Manitowoc-owned dealer MGX Equipment Services received an order to refurbish (14) 2250 cranes over the period of a few years, utilizing (4) different MGX sites with a “one in”/ “one out” approach. This method was established to allow key account customer Maxim Crane Works to continue their operations throughout the refurb period.

The standard established was, “We want every refurbished crane delivered back to Maxim to be the same. Upon completion of the crane, we want the customer to be unable to distinguish from which MGX site the crane was completed.” This statement required standardization across the associated facilities, so the MGX team established an organized, repeatable process that took into account the capability of each location.

Scroll through the processes implemented for a detailed look:

1	Configured the work content into (16) different work segments. Work segments 1-8 were associated with the tear down of the crane. Work segments 9-16 were associated with the rebuild of the crane.
2	The TOTAL time allowed was then broken down and distributed over the (16) work segments. Basically, this meant we had a targeted labour hours per work segment that could be monitored on a regular basis per MGX site.
3	Direct links to drawings and information were set up in the system, allowing easy access to data for any technician (working on any MGX site).
4	Next was the materials. The FULL Bill of Material ( BOM ) was broken down into individual parts and allocated to each different work segment.
5	This allowed the creation of material kits PER WORK SEGMENT, further allowing the kits to be delivered at “point of use.”
6	The Warehouse team at Jeffersonville were then added to the MAXIM team. This ensured the material kits were picked and controlled, ready for “timed” delivery, to each specific MGX site.
7	Logistics was organized predominantly by Nate Pears, who is our direct contact to the customer. This provided for clear established dates of project flow and completion while aligning each task above to satisfy that demand.
8	Finally, systems have been set in place to monitor performance per work segment, per crane, per site. This introduces accountability for results and allows each MGX site to learn from each other as we progress on this journey.

The exciting news is the customer has received delivery of the first 2250 crawler crane and they are delighted. We believe the success of this project will lead to future ENCORE business growth for MGX Equipment and Manitowoc.

Related to this initiative is a focus on participating in the Used Cranes market, so that cranes that are still operational can be placed back into the market to continue serving lifting needs of customers.

bauma China

Manitowoc’s presence at bauma China generated excitement among the more than 190 invited customers and dealers (over 160 from overseas regions) with more than half participating in the Zhangjiagang, China factory visit. Among the highlights were the launch of the largest Potain Topless crane – MCT 2205 M80 at the show. Manitowoc’s innovative booth, entertainment, factory tour, and products were all enthusiastically received by attendees and generated many positive comments.

In 2024, The Manitowoc Company continued to demonstrate its commitment to innovation through the development and introduction of cutting-edge products and services. Leveraging its CRANES+50 strategy, Manitowoc focused on enhancing its aftermarket business, which saw a significant increase in revenue.

The company also expanded its footprint by acquiring distribution rights in key regions, further solidifying its market presence. At industry events like bauma China, Manitowoc showcased a variety of new, innovative products designed to meet the evolving needs of its customers. These efforts underscore Manitowoc's dedication to driving technological advancements and delivering value to its stakeholders.

Igo M 24-19

The Igo M 24-19, an upgrade from the well-known Igo M 14, boasts enhanced performance thanks to the new P+ function introduced on self-erecting tower cranes. As part of the M range, which integrates the axle into the crane, this model offers mobile solutions for carpenters and simplifies the setup process. The crane’s CCS includes a Smart Set-up function for user convenience, ensuring the feasibility of various configurations. Like all CCS cranes, the Igo M 24-19 comes standard with the Potain CONNECT telematics system. Notably, it is the first crane to feature Potain Powerboost^TM, a battery pack that allows the crane to be erected and operated for a day without an external power supply. Additionally, connecting a standard 230V16A plug to Potain Powerboost^TMenhances lifting performance as when connected to a 230V32A power supply.

MCR 625

The MCR 625 is a high-speed, high-performance luffing jib crane built on a proven design popular in the European and North American markets. With movable counter-jib ballasts for better space optimization and compact design, the MCR 625 can work with one or two-fall reeving, enabling faster hoist speeds to maximize productivity.

MCT 2205

The MCT 2205 is the strongest topless crane in the Potain range, with a maximum load of 80t. The topless concept is making it easy to assemble and importantly, disassemble.

Mast: K 880, K 200
The K 880 meets the growing need for increased hook heights in spite of facing higher wind speeds and more frequent crane driver lift installations. As an example, with the K 880 a MDT 319 or a MDT 389 can be erected free standing over 95m height under hook. The K880 is also essential to offer a mast solution for our largest cranes such as MDLT 1109 or our large luffing jib cranes.

Evy 2.2 t
(plugs into 220 V sockets)

The Evy 30-23 2.2t completes the Evy range with this single-phase version, enabling it to be powered from a standard power supply (220V). Like the Evy 30-23 4t, this crane is equipped with smart set-up, and a new assembly kinematics, it requires no manual intervention to be unfolded, everything is done from a radio control. This crane is also equipped with Potain CONNECT as standard.

GMK4100L-2 Hybrid Concept

This crane allowed us to get a concrete Voice Of Customer feedback and enabled us to learn about the technology.

GMK5150L-1/XL Plug-In-Hybrid

Provides equal to or improved performance in slewing, hoisting, telescoping, and luffing speed/power versus the non-hybrid crane model through a simple and reliable option of AC/DC charging and charging/recharging while driving.

GRT765: Compact and Efficient

The GRT765, with a 65 USt capacity and 126 ft main boom, is ideal for construction and highway projects. It shares the GRT780's advanced features, including the CCS 1+ system and ECO mode for reduced fuel consumption. Launched in May 2024, it's available globally and produced at Shady Grove, United States and Niella, Italy factories.

GRT780: Versatile and Eco-Friendly

The GRT780, with an 80 USt capacity and 155 ft main boom, is designed for easy global transport. Its new wider cab and CCS 1+ system enhance visibility and operation. The crane's ECO mode reduces fuel consumption, and Grove CONNECT provides superior fleet management. Launched in May 2024, it's perfect for various applications and is produced at our Shady Grove, United States and Niella, Italy factories.

MLC200 and MLC250 Hybrid
Manitowoc has developed a hybrid powertrain for the MLC200 and MLC250 crawler cranes. These cranes utilize a parallel diesel and electric drive to power the same hydraulic system as the traditional diesel variant of the machine. This parallel system allows the machine to be operated utilizing electric power and only runs the diesel when additional function speed or battery charging is required. The hybrid system allows the ultimate flexibility of the machine being self sufficient on a green field project or operate fully electric when the electrical infrastructure is available.

MLC650 6m Wide Boom Kit
The MLC650 has been heavily utilized in the wind turbine construction industry and recently the heights and weights of wind turbines have both been increasing. The MLC650 6m Wide Boom Kit with new fixed jib allows the existing MLC650s to complete this work instead of forcing customers to invest in new larger machines. These larger machines take up more space, take longer to mobilize and require significantly more loads to transport.
